THE GOAN FESTIVAL 2010
Dear Goan Association (UK) organisers and all parties involved in organising 'The Goan Festival' held on Sunday 25th July 2010.

Cc: Friends & Relatives across the Globe.

I wish to convey my CONGRATULATIONS to you all organising a fabulous Goan Festival which was most enjoyable filled with Live entertainment, good stalls providing wonderful food and other items.

The day was just perfect with the bright skies above and sunshine which only helped make my suntan better!! ha ha - talking of my natural tan that never goes.

For those who missed this great occasion, my little candid camera has fortunately captured some of the action which also included some of the live performances on stage which I have captured on video and hopefully will add to this blog in a couple of days.

Great entertainment from the young band JLADS who provided music for dancing. These young Lads will be around on the music circuits for a long time. Well done guys and all the best.

The Goan Cultural Society, the Kunbi dancers and Goans 'R' US certainly provided very good live entertainment with their colourful costumes.

I cannot fail to comment on 'YOUNG PERRY' our well known and respected composer, song writer and singer who never fails to entertain to the highest standards, and all you have to do is view his video clips on YouTube. Perry you were a real showman. Wish you all the best.

This occasion needs no introduction as the attached below says it all. Read the Chairman's Address welcome message below (which I have copied from the programme). Herbert, I convey my special congratulations to and your team and all others who helped. What pride to our Goan community.

As a token of rememberance of this great occasion, I enclose two photo albums slideshow which can be viewed by clicking on the links below - wait a few good seconds for photos to download and click the play arrow.

Understand there were over 5,000 who attended this occasion and as I was only present for a couple of hours I could not capture all the action, in fact missed out meeting many of my friends.

P.S. Appreciate if some of my friends can email me your photos which I would like to add to this collection. My email is bvents@aol.com     Thank you in advance.

Sponsorship for the first time from Tilda Basmati Rice was great and most supportive. Also the team of Sony Television Network (Asian TV) was another good achievement and graced by Diplomat, Mrs.Subhashini a Minister from New Delhi presently at the Indian High Commission here in London, and other dignatories certainly moved the boundaries for the Festival making it very special.

Video clips will follow shortly.

Best wishes to one and all.

THE GOAN CULTURAL SOCIETY UK
Dear folks,
Please find enclosed below a brief profile of "The Goan Cultural Society UK" kindly provided by Greg Carvalho as requested by myself. Very interesting and we have to be proud.

Hi Benny,

Thank you for your email
No problem, please do. Just so you are aware, please find below a brief profile of the Goan Cultural Society UK. We have been around for over 10 years and have provided Opportunities for some of the best Goan performers in UK.

The Goan Cultural Society UK is a not- for-profit organisation which was formed in November 2000. The organisation was formed by a handful of people because Konkani Tiatrs in UK had died out. For many years, the older Goan generation upheld the tradition and heritage of the Konkani Theatre by staging at least one Konkani Musical Drama every year. Unfortunately, it all stopped In 1996 we believe this was because the potential Writers and Directors did not get the support and finance to stage the Tiatrs, and were not able to it on their own.

It was only four years later in the year 2000, a handful of Goans decided to see how best they could promote and support local, Play writers, Song writer, Actors,

Actresses and Singers, living in the UK and thus formed the Goan Cultural Society UK. Over the last 10 years we have produced 10 “Tiatrs” giving opportunities for the talented Goans living in the UK to stage their work.

We even produced Variety shows for the children in the first five years giving opportunities to children to sing in their “MAI BHAS” Konkani. Unfortunately we could not continue the children Variety shows, as other groups were bringing tiatrs and cast from Goa, and this had adverse effect on our audience’s attendances.

Nevertheless we still continued promoting local talent our shows are very original, professional and as good if not better than those that come from Goa.

You may not know this, ours is the first Goan performing Arts organisation, and is the only one legally registered In the UK, at Companies House ( Reg. No. 06071937) and also the only one that promotes the talent of Goans living in the UK, including children.

The organisation is financed by the goodwill of the Trustees and the Cast, who are all unpaid volunteers who give their time and expertise to promote our Goan heritage in the UK. The GCS has purchased its own Stage Lighting, Sound System, microphones etc. Besides team of expertise who have all the knowledge required to stage Tiatrs, we also have our own Music Composer and Sound engineer. Where possible we allow other Goan organisations free use of our equipment.

We produce one new Tiatr each year. Next year’s Tiatr is called “TUJEA DOLLEANIM” written and directed by Tony Gomes. This will be staged on Sunday 8th May 2011 at Arch Bishop Lanfranc School, Croydon, Saturday 14th May’ 2011 at The Polish Community Centre, Swindon and on Sunday, 22 May 2011 at the Copeland Community Hall, Wembley.

Best regards
Gregg Carvalho
